Sisters Across the World

I gave birth to my first son in 2005. He came out gray, and needed a pediatric trauma team to resuscitate him. It was the sort of birth experience that would have killed both me and him if I had been giving birth in another part of the world, but we are both alive and healthy today.

Every mother and child should have an equal shot at life. I'm now in my third year of directing a Seattle-based nonprofit called Bald Solidarity (baldsolidarity.org) that addresses global women's rights issues. This year our annual fundraiser will focus on maternal mortality.

I'm so glad to be a part of the global movement to make sure that birth is the wonderful experience it should be for women, babies, and families everywhere.
